Eng 234 Contemporary Fiction

Course Description:

Studies in contemporary novels and short stories.

I thoroughly enjoyed this class because it covers a topic that many other English classes don’t deal with, the present. While I fully support learning about the writing of the past it worries me sometimes that I will fill my head with Shakespeare, Blake, Chopin, and many others and have no idea of the writers of the present. I also really liked this course because it introduced me to authors that I probably would not have thought to ever pick up like Charles Baxter, James Baldwin, and Denis Johnson to name a few.  I also found that I highly enjoyed the style of the classroom learning. In this class it was all about discussion. It felt more like a book club than a class at times and I found this made me look forward to the class.
