Although I would be happy succeeding in any genre of writing I have a special passion for young adult writing, and therefore I am constantly reading what is available in this genre.
Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater
I found this novel to be original in the way that the author portrays the werewolves. Instead of making them into monsters Stiefvater focuses on humanity versus the wild temperament of real wolves. While I enjoy the lyrics and poetry that Stiefvater uses to highlight special moments, I find that the connection between the heroin and the tortured, supernatural, love interest flat and common in many other young adult novels these days. I would suggest this novel for leisure reading due to the original take on werewolves, and descriptive nature of the novel. I would also like to comment that it is a very quick read, but I found that it was the descriptions of the pack and the pack life that attracted me the most.
